Both the male and female get acne in fairly equal numbers. Younger males are more prone to severe, longer-lasting forms of the skin condition. It is observed, while hormonal acne typically starts between the ages of 20-25, it can strike teenagers as well. Hormonal acne is sometimes persistent in women over the age of 30, or even more.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to treat. Traditional therapies have a variety of side effects and sometimes require months to work, if they work at all. Topical creams and lotions have been known to cause redness and irritation not to mention failure.

  • What is IPL ACNE THERAPY?
IPL Acne Therapy is an effective new light-based therapeutic therapy is now revolutionizing the treatment of acne. The IPL Acne Therapy destroys the most common bacteria that cause acne — without drugs, without pain and without downtime.

IPL, “Intense Pulse Light” is one of the safest acne treatments available proven to be extremely effective on moderate inflammatory acne. Its technology uses light that is UV-safe and has no known side effects.

  • How does Intense Pulsed Light Work?
The Intense Pulsed Light system releases yellow, green and red light waves that are emitted in a series of short pulses. The light destroys the bacteria that live in the skin and cause acne and cause outbreaks of pustules and prevent over- production of excess sebum.
  • Standard procedure of treatment with IPL.
You will be asked to put on goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is then applied to the area to cool the skin and guide the light. The I P L is then placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the whole area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area is moisturised.

Each pulse of light treats an area of skin 4 cm x 1.5 cm and so large area can be covered in small time.

  • Is the treatment painful?
The light energy is absorbed by the skin, and heats it up very quickly, creating a sharp, short lived pinprick sensation.

No anaesthesia is required, other than cooling the skin and most patients describe the discomfort, if at all, as moderate and acceptable.

  • How long does each treatment take?
A typical treatment session will take 20 minutes.
  • How many treatments are necessary?
Treatments are carried out every 2 weeks and 4 to 6 treatments are recommended for maximum results.
  • HAIR REMOVAL

  • How does laser hair removal work?
The laser emits a very specific beam of light at a wavelength that is targeted at melanin in the hair and at the hair root (called the hair bulb). Melanin is the material that gives colour to our hair. The laser beam passes through the skin and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle.
  • Why do I need a series of treatments?
At any given time, a certain percentage of hairs are in the “resting” phase, rather than a growth phase. The laser will not be effective on those resting hairs, which is why, on average, five treatments are necessary in each area to achieve maximum results.
  • How many treatments will I need?
After three to seven treatments initially, most of us report that their expectations have been met and the hair growth pattern is much, much less.
  • Do I need to do anything special before being treated?
a. Do not tan. Tanning of any type is the most common cause of blistering after laser hair removal.

b. No plucking, no electrolysis. Bleaching should be performed at least two weeks prior to treatment. The hair must be present, a short stubble.

c. Shaving is fine up until a few days before your treatment.

  • What are the medical or cosmetic side effects?
a. Pain. Some people feel discomfort during the treatment. There may be a burning sensation, which lasts for an hour or two.

b. Healing. There is always a slight possibility of developing a crust or blister. This is superficial and generally does not result in any scarring and is treated like sunburn or any other superficial blister.

c. Pigment changes. The treated area will probably heal without any pigment changes; however, there is always a chance that darker or lighter areas may occur. These are usually temporary and will fade within 1-6 months. Sun exposure must be avoided if a darker spot occurs, as that may intensify the hyper pigmentation.
